This project was the result of a successful redevelopment and conversion of the previously derelict Oak Bar on the Grosvenor road opposite the Royal Victoria Hospital.
Many of the existing materials and fittings were salvaged and incorporated into the new café in order to retain some of the character of the original building. This included re-using wooden floorboards and wainscoting for new tables, reclaiming the original saloon swing doors at the entrance and restoring the original vintage light fittings.
The client, Loaf Catering, is a social enterprise that supports people with barriers to employment and learning within the workforce. This project has created 10 permanent jobs and up to 100 training placements for catering trainees and has also provided much-needed regeneration for this area of Belfast.
